DJ VirtualDeck was one of the first DJ apps to hit the iOS App Store back in 2008, approximately 1 month after the store opened.
It was the first DJ app to allow you to use your own music to mix and scratch, while simultaneously allowing all the freedom a classical deck would give, such as spinning the record backwards.
It was first with Ogg/Vorbis support, and arguably more notable: the first DJ app with MP3 support. DJ VirtualDeck supported MP3 even before Apples CoreAudio team enabled MP3 decoding for 3rd party developers.
All of this was, at the time, made to work on the original iPhone and iPod touch, which was no small feat when you think about what the 2007 iPhone hardware encompassed.
It took the competition more than two years to develop an app that could rival DJ VirtualDeck.

Quickdecay have decided to re-release DJ VirtualDeck as a free app giving all iPhone and iPod touch users a glimpse into the App Stores humble beginnings, back when there were only about 2000 apps.
We hope you enjoy this flashback to times past.

Pros and cons of DJ VirtualDeck app for iPhone and iPad

DJ VirtualDeck app good for

This app is just what I was looking for, the only flaw is that it wont load song from iTunes, you must load over wifi, the company claims this is not possible but iPhone 3.0 is supposed to offer iTunes support, just look at LPplayer, a pour rippoff of a tech12 with no pitch control but it will load my iTunes songs. If LPplayer can do it surely it can be done. Add iTunes support and this app it will gets 5 stars hands down!
Alright...I at least bought the app... Works great! Very cool control and "feel"...Not sure how one is supposed to add more samples, but since Im jailbroken I just SSH into the app folder ...seems to have a limit on sample length, but not sure... Cant wait for updates!
This app is a great addition to a Djs tool belt. I would use this in addition to my Serato set up because it allows the next Dj to set up without stopping the music if there was no extra vinyl or CD available. As a producer, I can always have my new tracks at hand, ready to play at any club. The GUI is cool and it should be because it looks like a Technics 1200 (what real DJs use). However, the vinyl control needs to be more responsive. It is kind of sluggish. I wish the developers would of added the ability to cut and scratch, add a mixer interface and second turntable. That would lessen the stuff I would need to bring to a gig.
the scratch section has frozen and forced my touch to restart twice... is this a bug that youre aware of?
This App definitely has a few flaws. But over all its amazing. I almost cant believe these guys created this!!! Ive been DJing and producing for over 20 years. Although i own over 30,000 records (yes vinyl), Im a Serato user now and this definitely works as a lil transitional tool while im plugging in. Yeah you can obvioulsly just throw a cd on, but this is about a million times cooler. Plus just looking at the other DJs face while you use it is priceless. Although im sure you guys at Quickdecay are aware of some of the necessary improvements, I thought I would list a couple of key/important fixes/adjustments. 1. Obviously the scrathing is completely off and inaccurate. ( I dont really expect to scratch with this, but hilarious thats it was even worked in ) If you guys actually get this to work... I might fall over. LOL *****2. Most importantly, the pitch control slider needs to be flipped. Pitch presently increses up and decreses down. That is not the stardard on any equipment in the DJ or production industry. Its the opposite. Faster pitch needs to be slider down and slower up. Please correct that. Driving me a lil crazy ;) 3. Im sure you guys are well aware... but you really need to switch to full MP3 implementation. Nearly every digital DJ uses MP3 exclusively. I had no problem converting to Ogg/Vorbis but that might be a lil out of the scope of the average dj limited computer skills. More importantly, you really dont want to lose any more quality by having to use another conversion. 4. Effects can use a lot of improvement. However, very cool that you included them. Im sure they will get much better. 5. Aside from the pitch facing the wrong direction, its sensitivity needs to be toned way down. Jumps too far too quickly. Ive gotten pretty good at using it a bit more percisely, but still pretty difficult to adjust subtlely. ALL OF THIS ASIDE! I serioulsy commend you guys on a great app. I very much look forward to any and all fixes or upgrades that might be coming in what is hopefully the near future ;) If you DJ get this App. Nothing will compare. This thing is basically a digital Technics 1200 the size of a credit card! Not perfect, but it will impress u and blow people away when you show it to them!!! Thanks to the guys a Quickdecay. Out of about 100 apps ive purchased, this one has been the most impressive and fun. RockGee
I like it but I dont kno how to get more records on it. Can anyone help me? Becides my stupidness this is great fun. It it was more clear and if you could play ur music on it it would be a 5/5 app.

Some bad moments

It looks good, It needs work though. The fact that you have to upload and use wifi limits its usefullness. Oh yeah it tells me the web address isnt there and my iPhone just stays on the prompt screen till I cancel it:-( so I have only been able to use the sample track$&@" Ive been a profesional dj for the past 14 years and would like it to play as good as it looks!
I was gonna use this app to switch between serato users, but it doesnt play my mp3s. It stalls when I try to load my track. Gave it 1star for the concept. Save your $6 and buy a game instead. This aint worth buying!
Crashes and you cant use your iPod files need to upload via wifi
Can I get my money back???? This device is novelty only, and far from a good novelty app. Does not work without wifi. Far from decent scratch capabilites! Not worth more than .99 cents! Time to drop the price! DJ Kemo Vanguards Music
This app is a rip off, the audio quality is terrible on scratching, you cant loop or add backbeats, your tracks need to be loaded through wifi, and the effects are a joke. Get mixmeister for free. It scratches much better and supports your ipods library without a wifi. Future versions should utilize atomix virtual dj scratching. Dj allgood gives this app a 1/10 and wants his money back!!!
its fun to play around on, but otherwise its garbage. too bad you cant get your money back. only thing its good for is playing songs backwards and trying to find "subliminal messages"
